Modular hospital for Guimaras’ moderate COVID cases mulled

GUIMARAS – A 22-bed modular hospital for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases would be constructed beside the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital in Jordan town.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) central office approved the fund for this – P25.669 million – according to Cong. Ma. Lucille Nava.

Construction may start this month, she added.

When the modular hospital is completed, Guimaras’ COVID-dedicated hospital beds will rise to 70. (The Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital has around 40 beds allotted for COVID cases.)

The modular hospital will accept mild and moderate cases.

Nava also said the provincial government will purchase much needed medical equipment like high flow oxygen devices, respirators/ventilators, blood gas machine, among others, and hire more physicians and nurses.

As of Oct. 17, Guimaras had 98 active COVID cases, 2,842 cases that recovered and 147 cases that died.

The active cases were in the towns of Nueva Valencia (26), San Lorenzo (26), Buenavista (25), Jordan (14), and Sibunag (eight)./PN
