ILOILO City – Police stations in Molo and Mandurriao districts have new heads. Their chiefs of police were swapped to “avoid familiarity” and improve their performance.
Chief Inspector Marlon Valencia of the Molo police will replace Chief Inspector Engelbert Banquillo at the Mandurriao police station. The latter will take over the former’s previous post.
Their new assignments took effect on Thursday.
Chiefs of police who had been on the post for two years normally get a new assignment, said Senior Superintendent Martin Defensor, city police director.
Valencia had been the Molo police chief for two years already. Banquillo, on the other hand, had been leading the Mandurriao police force for only four months after replacing Chief Inspector Juvy Navales.
Defensor clarified that the two officers were active in the campaigns against illegal drugs and wanted persons.
“But we need to move those who had been on their posts for two years already to avoid familiarity and improve their performance,” he said.
Valencia said he and his men are required to ensure peace and order in the business-centric Mandurriao, what with numerous establishments, like banks and hotels, to watch over.
These are aside from “some barangays that are drug-affected,” he said.
“This is a big challenge for me,” said Valencia. “We are asking the help of barangay officials and the community.”/PN
