BACOLOD City – No public storm warning signal was raised but an enhanced southwest monsoon brought moderate to occasional heavy rains that flooded parts of this city yesterday.

Rain started pounding the metro around 10 a.m., spawning flashfloods in barangays Alijis, Taculing and Singcang-Airport, according to the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO).

The CDRRMO initially reported a 56-year-old man missing in Barangay Taculing after being swept away by the flashflood.

However, the agency has yet to confirm the identity of this individual. They further added the flooding in the city did not trigger any evacuations.

The heavy rains also caused the city’s Magsungay River to swell. However, the floods were reported to have quickly subsided after the rains stopped.

Based on the latest weather bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Western Visayas, including Bacolod City experienced cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

The state weather bureau also issued a warning for possible flash floods or landslides caused by the weather disturbance./PN
