Monsoon rains leave P2.2-M damage in WV

ILOILO City – Heavy southwest monsoon rains enhanced by Super Typhoon “Karding” left Western Visayas with an estimated P2.2-million worth of damage to infrastructure and agriculture.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday damage to infrastructure was estimated at P1.5 million while that in agriculture reached P736,993.07, according to the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC).

The floodway in Barangay Manlucahoc, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental was partially damaged (estimated cost of damage is P1.5 million).

Sipalay City also lost 22.64 metric tons of agricultural produce valued at P736,993.07.

Meanwhile, the Buhang-Egaña steel bridge in Sibalom, Antique collapsed. Estimated cost of damage is around P12 million.

As to the affected population, 245 families composed of 804 individuals were displaced in Negros Occidental. They were from the towns of Binalbagan (110 families or 338 individuals), Cauayan (16 families or 40 individuals), and Sipalay City (119 families or 426 individuals).

As of this writing, the evacuees have already returned to their respective homes.

Meanwhile, a rain-induced landslide was monitored in Barangay San Vicente, Culasi, Antique ; no casualties were recorded.

As of 12 noon of Sept. 26, all seaports in Western Visayas resumed operations.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 6 provided P702,016.50 worth of food and non-food items to the affected families in the region particularly in Binalbagan (P108,894.50), Cauayan (P94,696), and Sipalay City (P498,426) in Negros Occidental.

The affected families in these three local government units were also provided with hot meals.
