BACOLOD City – Monsoon rains enhanced by tropical depression “Falcon” damaged agricultural crops worth P7.1 million in Negros Occidental.
Farmlands in the towns of San Enrique and Valladolid, and Bago City suffered heavily, according to the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.
In Valladolid, 399.50 hectares were adversely affected. A total of 279 farmers were displaced. Damage reached P2.6 million.
In the neighboring town of San Enrique, 276.56 hectares of rice fields were damaged. Losses reached P1.5 million.
Agricultural damage in Bago City, on the other hand, reached P2.9 million covering 416.14 hectares of farmland.
Valladolid disaster management office head John Dexter Celis said 14 of the town’s 16 barangays suffered from two days of non-stop raining.
Only a portion of the town’s Barangay Poblacion was spared from floodwaters, said Celis.
Mayor Enrique Miravalles ordered the distribution of relief supplies to affected residents, said Celis./PN
