BACOLOD City – A measure that seeks to give Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials a monthly stipend of P1,000 was filed at the city council.
The proposed ordinance was approved in first reading at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) yesterday.
Councilor Caesar Distrito and SK federation president Ayesha Joy Villaflor authored the proposed measure.
“Members of the SK are the frontliners in advancing the welfare of the youth. They deserve to be compensated for all their selfless efforts,” said Distrito.
The proposal only covers SK officials (secretary and treasurer included) other than SK chairpersons, who already receive a monthly honorarium.
Aside from the monthly stipend, the measure also proposes to give these SK officials hospitalization assistance worth P10,000 – which can only be availed once a year – and burial assistance also worth P10,000.
According to Distrito, the proposal is in line with the provisions of the Local Government Code of 1991 that empowers the SK to “initiate programs designed to enhance the social, political, economic, cultural, intellectual, moral, spiritual and physical development of the members.”/PN
