More compliant hotels in Boracay, says task force

BORACAY — More establishments accredited by the government are now up to operate in this world famous island.

In the recent Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force’s (BIATF) bulletin, a total of 364 accommodation establishments were already accredited, wherein some 13,064 rooms are ready for occupancy.

BIATF also said it has given the go signal to six more Boracay hotels.

As part of the government’s rehabilitation efforts, hotels in this world famous island were forced to comply with stricter environmental regulations enforced by the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT).

The task force still urges the public to avoid booking with erring establishments that have yet to secure permits from the DOT, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Department of Interior and Local Government.

Boracay was shut down for six months last year for rehabilitation, after President Rodrigo Duterte sounded the alarm on environment degradation and overdevelopment on the island.

The government now limits the number of tourists to ensure the sustainability of the island, which was reopened in October last year. (With a report from DOT/PN)
