AND the dangling conversation about MORE Electric and Power Corporation a.k.a. MORE Power, “I Am Iloilo City’s” sole power distribution utility, continues.
Talk about serendipity, the other day while having my usual caffeine fix at Starbucks I bumped into “Nong Moroy” and over Café Americano we had more conversations about the latest achievements five years after the takeover.
MORE Power started five years ago with the goal for a reliable power distributor transformed into a five-year journey of transformation and progress.
These past five years, the company worked tirelessly to build confidence as a power distribution utility through strategic and impactful developments. Every investment, every upgrade, every improvement has always focused on the consumers’ need, comfort and a better future.
Powering Iloilo City with infrastructure that have an effect on the Ilonggo’s life i.e. the first underground distribution system in Western Visayas, this initiative transferred underground one circuit kilometer of overhead electrical lines along Calle Real. A stronger and stable power, upgrading more than 6,000 poles for better power stability. Plus, installing more than 887 transformers thus improving electricity flow. And to meet growing demands, two mobile substations were deployed; one 10 MVA in 2020 and one 30 MVA in 2025.
Moving on, the Visayas energy sector is poised to get a big boost as officials from Meralco Industrial Engineering Services Corporation (MIESCOR) recently visited MORE Power’s headquarters in Iloilo City. In that visit they their interest in collaboration with MORE Electric and Power Corporation a.k.a. MORE Power. This partnership will push forward the modernization and expansion of MORE Power’s operations in Iloilo province and its sister company, Negros Power.
Incidentally, MIESCOR is a leading provider of engineering, procurement, construction, maintenance, and project management services with extensive experience in the power sector, having successfully completed numerous projects across the Philippines.
The proposed partnership will extend beyond engineering and construction, offering to share expertise/best practices through comprehensive training programs for MORE Power’s linemen.
As an icing to the cake, the partnership will establish a Utility Attachment Office, managing the attachment of telephone/cable company lines to electric distribution poles. This will institutionalize the campaign to address the unsightly and often hazardous “spaghetti wiring” in Iloilo City.
MIESCOR’s expertise with MORE/Negros Power’s innovative approach will lead to a more reliable, efficient, and sustainable power system for the region, benefiting the communities they serve.
And the conversation shifted to “Nong Moroy’s” Corporate Social Responsibility. Just recently, 214 golfers from Iloilo and across the country descended upon the verdant fairways of the Iloilo Golf and Country Club to take part in the “KuryenTee Anniversary Golf Tournament.”
The event organized by MORE Power is not just a game. It symbolizes of the company’s commitment to not only powering Iloilo City but also uplifts its communities, a celebration of a brighter future, a testament to the spirit of giving, and a tribute to the remarkable journey of MORE Power as it marked its 5th anniversary of operation in Iloilo City.
The event also served as a platform for sharing blessings, with 18 foundations and non-government organizations receiving a generous donation of 4,600,000 pesos from MORE Power contractors and suppliers.
According to MORE Power president/CEO Roel Castro, “It’s not an ordinary golf tournament, we’ve been working tirelessly for the past five years to rehabilitate and modernize the distribution system in Iloilo City, and we’ve made significant progress. We’ve reduced outages, minimized pilferage, and lowered system losses. Now, we can take a moment for fun and share our success with those who need it most.”
MORE Power’s commitment extends far beyond providing electricity. The company has consistently demonstrated a deep-rooted dedication to community service, partnering with various organizations uplifting the lives of Ilonggos.
And these are some of the charitable organizations, foundations and NGOs that were the beneficiaries of MORE Power’s kindness: Homeless Peoples Federation Philippines, Philippine Red Cross, Taos Puso Foundation, Iloilo Citizens Action Group, Jaro Archdiocesan Social Action Center, Assumption Iloilo, Colegio de San Jose, Carmelite Monastery, St. Clement Hofgauer Learning Center, RCAJ-St. Anne Parish, Asilo de Molo, Negrense Volunteers for Change Foundation, Federation of Iloilo Fire Brigade, Kalipay Foundation, and World Surgical Foundation Philippines.
Indeed, well played, “Nong Moroy”./PN
