ILOILO – Twenty-five additional policemen were deployed to San Miguel town yesterday to augment African Swine Fever (ASF) border checkpoints.

According to Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) director, Police Colonel Noel Aliño, San Miguel officials requested the augmentation following the declaration of a state of calamity.

“Kahit sa ganitong bagay lang, at least makatulong kaming mga kapulisan sa problema na kinakaharap ng ating mga tao lalo na ng ating mga local government units,” said Aliño.

The IPPO director visited communities most affected by ASF to find out what the police can do to help.

Meanwhile, the infected area in San Miguel town is Barangay San Jose where, according to Mayor Marina Gorriceta, aside from the index case other hogs were also manifesting symptoms of the disease.

She added that more than 300 hogs from hog farms in Barangay San Jose are under surveillance.

On Tuesday, Oct. 25, Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. issued Executive Order No. 460-A-2022 amending EO No. 460 and adjusting quarantine procedures and disease prevention and control measures against ASF.

Under the amended EO, which took effect immediately, Oton and San Miguel are deemed as Red Zones. Movement of live pigs, pork, pork products (fresh/frozen pork products and uncooked processed pork products, except cooked and canned processed pork products), and swine genetic materials in and out of these municipalities shall be prohibited./PN
