More COVID facilities eyed in Bacolod

BACOLOD City – The city government and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the construction of two healthcare facilities with a combined 32 isolation rooms for asymptomatic or mild coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients.

These facilities, worth P25 million or P12.5 million each, will rise on a government-owned property in Barangay Alijis, currently a plant nursery of the City Agriculture’s Office.

Mayor Leonardia and DPWH undersecretary Emil Sadain executed the ceremonial signing of the MOA on Sept. 9.

Leonardia said the two isolation facilities will augment the bed capacity for indigent COVID-positive patients with mild symptoms.

Hospitals in the city, he added, will have more rooms to accommodate critically-ill patients.

According to DPWH regional director Lea Delfinado, the agency will handle the emergency procurement and construction of the two isolation facilities.

Each is a one-storey container van-type structure with 16 isolation rooms, each with its own comfort room.

Each facility also comes with a nurses’ station, a utility room, and quarters for medical personnel on duty.

DPWH will be using pre-fabricated components. The target completion of the construction would be Sept. 30./PN
