ILOILO City – So far, 16,094 residents of Western Visayas have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.
DOH Region 6 reported 300 additional patients who overcome the viral disease on Nov. 18, one of the highest single-day case recoveries in the region.
According to the World Health Organization, most people (about 80 percent) recover from COVID-19 without needing special treatment.
But older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness.
Bacolod City posted the highest number of recoveries with 4,745 followed by Negros Occidental province with 4,070; Iloilo City, 3,932; Iloilo province, 2,062; Capiz, 891; Guimaras, 176; Aklan, 158; and Antique, 70.
Meanwhile, the region’s COVID-19 active cases are currently at 2,036 with 65 new infections, according to DOH-6.
Negros Occidental has the highest number of active cases with 1,101 followed by Iloilo province with 333; Bacolod City, 279; Iloilo City, 220; Capiz, 47; Guimaras, 26; Aklan, 24; and Antique with six.
DOH-6 data also showed that the majority or 79.86 percent of these active cases were asymptomatic; 14.98 percent were mild cases; and 4.72 percent were severe.
Meantime, COVID-19-related deaths in the region are now 496 with eight additional fatalities recorded on Nov. 18.
