IT NEVER ceases to amaze me how in an industry more known for profit than Corporate Social Responsibility, MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power), “I Am Iloilo City’s” sole power distribution utility, would take that responsibility seriously and sincerely by going above and beyond just providing steady and reliable electric power for its customers.
Just recently in that spate of power interruptions basically National Grid Corporation of the Philippines-induced, MORE Power did something rather creative and born out of their passion and commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility and desire to alleviate the sufferings of the natives of “I Am Iloilo City”.
MORE Power provided free cold water for washing and bathing to Iloilo City consumers affected by the 12-hour power interruption, April 21/28, 2024, due to maintenance work.
Over the weekend, in response to the needs of consumers, MORE Power not only supplied water but also offered free charging for their devices and appliances using a mobile generator.
“Together with Iloilo City’s Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, these efforts are our way of alleviating any inconvenience caused by the preventive maintenance work. We thank the Honorable Mayor for his support,” said Roel Castro, president and chief executive officer of MORE Power, who personally oversees his team on the ground.
In partnership with the Federation Fire Iloilo, MORE Power scheduled water delivery to affected barangays from 9 a.m. until power was restored. They also mobilized a roving generator to strategic areas where affected consumers could charge their devices, such as cellular phones, power banks, and electric fans.
The barangay captains of the affected areas deeply appreciate the initiatives undertaken by MORE Power.
Take note that these things never happened during the watch of the former power distribution utility; in fact Corporate Social Responsibility then was insignificant to non-existent.
And there’s more from MORE Power:
Just recently, according to the latest study of the Institute of Contemporary Economics, Iloilo City has the lowest electricity rates among major cities in the country as of April this year.
MORE Power, offers the most affordable rate at P10.30 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), the study found out.
The Institute of Contemporary Economics study did this by comparing current electricity rates in several major cities across the country.
Metro Manila/Meralco, has a rate of P10.95 per kWh. while Cebu City/ Visayan Electric and Bacolod City/CENECO, have higher rates at P11.28 and P11.95 per kWh, respectively.
This means the lower electricity rates in Iloilo City not only benefit households but also attract businesses, fostering economic growth and development in the region. MORE Power’s achievement has prompted commendations from the Iloilo Business Club, the Iloilo Economic Development Foundation Inc. and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Iloilo Chapter, Inc.
I remember MORE Power president/chief executive officer Roel Castro once said something like this: “We will always look for the best/lowest electricity rate in the open market for our consumers in Iloilo City.”
And this is what I meant when I said that MORE Power won the hearts and minds of the natives of “I Am Iloilo City” with flair and elan, setting the standards of what a power distribution utility should be – a company stepped up in customer service, always on the lookout on what’s best for the customer, because a happy customer means good business and good business means profit.
In an industry known for profit-taking rather than giving back, MORE Power had a very significant impact on the improvement of the quality of life and economy of Iloilo City.
