More initiatives for the people

IT’S QUITE ironic that while most companies, particularly in the power sector (electric cooperatives included), scramble for profit rather than service, there’s one power distribution utility that prioritizes corporate social responsibility/service by finding more initiatives for the consumers’ convenience.

Although profit is de rigueur in any business enterprise, it does not mean it’s the be all and end all. There’s one power distribution utility that puts itself a cut above the rest in terms of corporate social responsibility, customer service/relationship and excellent service; it is constantly finding ways to bring down power rates to manageable levels and conduct initiatives for the convenience of consumers.

Of course, there can only be one and that’s “I Am Iloilo City’s” sole power distribution utility, MORE Electric and Power Corporation a.k.a. MORE Power.

This is what we’re talking about:

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) recently approved MORE Electric and Power Corporation’s (MORE Power) proposal to streamline its Net-Metering and Distributed Energy Resources (DER) initiatives, aiming to make renewable energy solutions more accessible to consumers.

Previously, MORE Power submitted a request to the ERC consolidating its Net-Metering and DER Certificate of Compliance (COC) applications at its Customer Care Office in Iloilo City. The initiative seeks to simplify the application process not just for Iloilo City residents but also for consumers in Central Negros and Tagbilaran City.

According to MORE Power president/CEO Roel Castro, “This initiative is part of our commitment to promoting renewable energy solutions and providing better services to our consumers.”

The ERC approval allows the Iloilo City office to serve as a central hub for monthly application assessments. ERC representatives will conduct on-site evaluations, expediting the issuance of compliance documents for MORE Power, Negros Electric and Power Corporation (NEPC), and Bohol Light Company Inc. (BLCI).

This “One-Stop-Shop “makes the application process faster and more efficient, offering convenience to more consumers.

Moving on, MORE Power supports more children through a life-changing nutrition program, not the usual stuff that power distribution utilities get into, but then again, Nong Moroy is not your usual power distribution utility.

To put a stop to malnutrition among children, a collaborative project has been launched involving the Iloilo Provincial Government, MORE Power, Negrense Volunteers for Change (NVC), the Santa Barbara local government unit (LGU), and the Provincial Health Office’s Provincial Nutrition Action Office.

And that project is the Mingo Meals Nutrition Program in Santa Barbara designed to benefit children aged six months to three years by providing nutritious meals made from organic ingredients such as malunggay (moringa), mung beans, and rice sourced from local farmers in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

The Mingo Meals initiative initially started in San Miguel with support from MORE Power and later expanded to Santa Barbara based on recommendations from health officials due to the area’s high malnutrition rates.

In addition to providing meals, regular counselling sessions on nutrition, health, and sanitation will be offered to parents.

Santa Barbara’s Mayor Dennis Superficial said expressing his gratitude for this initiative, “This is a part of MORE Power’s corporate responsibility. We thank MORE Power president/CEO Roel Castro and everyone involved for addressing the needs of these children. This initiative is crucial, and we hope it continues.”

Finally, MORE Power president/CEO has this to say”

“While we bring power and energy, the most important source lies with our children. Electricity is useless if our future generation is malnourished; they can’t build a brighter future. The key lies with mothers, as the future depends on your children. We’ve committed to bringing this program to areas where we operate, including Negros and Bohol. In six months’, time, when we revisit, these children should no longer just be sitting on your laps; they should be running around — healthy.”

Indeed, more initiatives for the people./PN
