KALIBO, Aklan – More traffic lights will be installed in this capital town soon.
Seen to operate along the busy Mabini Street on Roxas Avenue, the traffic lights will be the town’s third.
The first on Crossing Banga-New Washington are already in full operation, while the second at the intersection of Toting Reyes Street and Roxas Avenue Extension are currently on a one-month dry run.
Mayor William Lachica said in a press release the additional traffic lights will minimize traffic congestion along the major gateway of vehicles bound for Barangay Caticlan, Malay, an entry point to Boracay.
The project, sponsored by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), will be turned over to the local government for its full operation, said Aklan District Engineer Noel Fuentebella.
It started on July 23. The department aims to complete it by Nov. 23.
Currently the DPWH is negotiating with the Department of Education – Division of Aklan for the installation of one of the posts in the Kalibo Pilot Elementary School.
With a total cost of P9,580,059.40, the project is funded under the DPWH Regular Infrastructure Program for this year, said Fuentebella. It was awarded to the Traffic Supplies and Construction Corp.
The project includes the provision of traffic signal lantern (LED-type with visor); traffic control signal cables; local controller; vehicle-presence video detector; street light posts; and road signs.
The contractor shall also set up reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings, pedestrian push-and-button assembly, high mast signal poles, arrow masks, and mounting brackets. (PIA/PN)
