ILOILO City – Some 200 women in Western Visayas running for various local elective posts this May 13 midterm elections are gathering today at Casa Real (old provincial capitol) for a seminar to be conducted by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Aside from discussing election rules and regulations, the “Women in Election” seminar will also teach participants how to use the vote counting machine and voter registration verification machine.
“Our goal is to give equal access, equal opportunities to women,” said Comelec’s Commissioner Socorro Inting who chairs the poll body’s Gender and Development Focal Point System.
She is spearheading today’s seminar.
Women should be encouraged to participate in elections, Inting said yesterday, noting that less than 30 percent of women enter politics./PN
