ILOILO City – As of the third week of August, a total of 651 minors have been apprehended since the re-launching of the curfew on minors in March this year, data from the Iloilo City government’s Task Force on Morals and Values Formation (TFMVF) showed.
The task force is the body assigned to enforce the curfew.
Of the 651 minors caught, 43 were second offenders, said task force executive director George Duron.
The breakdown of offenders per district is as follows:
* 144 from the City Proper
* 87 from La Paz and Lapuz
* 190 from Jaro
* 71 from Molo
* 55 from Mandurriao
* 104 from Arevalo
“This month, we will possibly file a case against eight minors because they were already (caught) thrice. This way, we can show that the city government is really serious in implementing the curfew ordinance,” said Duron.
Most of the minors were caught sauntering on the streets with their friends beyond 10 p.m.
Aside from the task force, police station in the metropolis are also conducting curfew saturation drives.
Duron said parents of apprehended minors were invited to attend consultative meetings every Friday to orient them on their responsibilities to their children and the consequences of allowing their children to come out of their houses beyond 10 p.m.
“We also conduct orientation to barangay officials and parents, and encourage them to help us implement our curfew ordinance,” added Duron.
The task force has so far conducted orientation in 57 barangays. Iloilo City has a total of 180 villages.
Senior Police Officer 2 Ruth Laudato also credit the curfew ordinance on minors for the drop in the number of children-in-conflict with the law (CICL) from January to July this year compared to the same period last year.
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) recorded 854 cases of CICL from January to July 2017 – lower compared to the 1,318 cases recorded in 2016. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
