CALUYA, Antique – Motorboat Roxane-L capsized in the waters of Barangay Semirara here on July 20. Its crew of eight was rescued safely.
The boat was from Occidental Mindoro and bound for Barangay Semirara when it capsized, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) substation in Semirara.
Strong winds and big waves were too much for it, the coastguard added. The boat’s freeboard got damaged.
PCG-Semirara quickly responded. The boat’s rescued crew was turned over to the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management of Semirara “for proper medical attention.”
The coastguard reminded boat operators to be wary of inclement weather to avoid a similar incident.
Meanwhile, motorboat Roxane-L owner Catherine Lim issued this statement:
“Due to this untoward incident, the management assures those who have recorded cargoes (in the ill-fated boat) they would be refunded in due time after the investigation and verification of cargoes and the total cost.”
The boat was carrying 100 sacks of hog feeds and 100 sacks of rice./PN
