BORACAY – Strong waves caused a motorboat to capsize near Cagban port in this island resort, putting the lives of 31 passengers in danger.

The MBCA Carrolan, which was from Caticlan Port, was bound for Cagban port on June 1.

While about 50 meters away from its destination, the waves smashed the motorboat.

Sixteen passengers managed to swim toward the shore while the others – mostly children – were rescued by members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Boracay Rescue Volunteers.

They were rushed to a hospital for a medical checkup and were then allowed to go home.

PCG-Caticlan chief Lieutenant Commander Ramil Palabrica told ABS-CBN News that strong waves and wind dragged the motorboat to the rocky part of the shore, destroying it completely.

Due to the incident, the PCG ordered to reroute boat trips to Tabon port instead of Caticlan port that day. (With a report from ABS-CBN News/PN)
