Motorcycle crash kills 19-year-old student

BACOLOD City – A motorcycle-driving student died in a crash on a national highway in Barangay Cubay, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.

The vehicle of the 19-year-old Junilo Melgar Villamor of Barangay San Miguel, La Carlota City accidentally hit the side wheel of a preceding tricycle.

Villamor sustained injuries on the body after the Tuesday crash.

He was taken to the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital in La Carlota City but later transferred to the Riverside Medical Center here where he died at around 10:30 p.m. that day.

His family reported the incident to the police only the following day.

The crash happened at around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Villamor was driving a Honda RS motorcycle.

Joel Gumba Valente, a 42-year-old resident of Barangay 3, La Carlota City, was driving the Kawasaki Barako II 175 tricycle.

At the time the tricycle was parked as Valente waited for his passenger that alighted to get a cap blown away by wind. The impact threw Villamor off his motorcycle, police said.

Valente was also taken to the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital./PN
