PONTEVEDRA, Capiz — A 26-year old man died after the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a crane in Barangay Malagit here.
John Kenneth Bantes of Barangay Linampungan was taken to Bailan District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Bantes must have failed to notice a detour at a bridge that is under construction, said SPO2 Leonie Dadivas, Pontevedra police spokesperson.
He hit the left headlight of the parked crane owned by Clifford Construction Corp., the project contractor.
It was very dark and raining when the accident happened at about 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, and there were no warning devices around, Dadivas said.
Bantes died of internal hemorrhage, according to autopsy results.
Police were still determining if a civil case could be filed against the contractor for not observing safety standards, said Dadivas./PN
