ILOILO – A motorcycle crashed against a truck then burst into flames in Lambunao town. The motorcycle driver, a policeman, died.
This was one of two separate vehicular accidents in the municipalities of Lambunao and Dumangas yesterday that claimed two lives.
The incident in Lambunao happened in Barangay Magbato around 5:10 a.m. Police Officer 1 Michael Manero, 30, died of severe head injuries.
Manero, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Lambunao, was driving a motorcycle when he crashed against an Elf truck.
Manero’s motorcycle caught fire after the collision and the policeman further sustained third degree burns.
He died while being rushed to the district hospital in Lambunao.
Elf truck driver Roel Lopez, 48, of Barangay Baluyan, Cabatuan, Iloilo said he was bound for Calinog town when the motorcycle hit his vehicle.
Lopez was detained at the Lambunao police station.
Five hours after, a road mishap in Barangay Balabag, Dumangas killed 80-year-old Remegio Inventor of Barangay Bulaquiña, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo.
The Iloilo City-bound Inventor was driving a Toyota Revo that crashed against a Ceres bus, said Senior Police Officer 3 of the Dumangas police station.
Inventor was with his wife Celdy, 72. She survived the accident but sustained injuries. She was taken to the Barotac Viejo district hospital.
