ILOILO – A motorcycle crashed into an elf truck in Barangay Cabugao Sur, Santa Barbara town around 6:50 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.
The 21-year-old Jemar Sana of Negros Occidental but temporarily residing in Barangay Mali-ao, Pavia, Iloilo died.
Sana was brought to the Western Visayas Sanitarium and General Hospital in Sant. Barbara town but was declared “dead-on-arrival”.
The elf truck driver, Roderick John Simpas, was a 35-year-old resident of Barangay Camambugan, Santa Barbara.
According to Police Major Jose Rey Pabalan, chief of the Santa Barbara Municipal Police Station (MPS), the elf truck was taking a U-turn and the motorcycle driver may not have noticed the truck’s signal light.
“Samtang naga-u-turn ang truck nga ini pabalik sa banwa gulpi lang may nagbunggo sa iya nga single nga motor, nakabungo ni siya sa likod nga bahin sang truck,” Pabalan said.
The police chief added that the victim was wearing a helmet, but the impact was still strong.
“Naka-helmet ini ang victim. Pero through sa mabaskug nga impact, nagka-head injury gid ni siya kag body injury rason sang iya kamatayon,” Pabalan said.
The elf truck driver is currently in the custody of the Sta. Barbara MPS. He refused to be interviewed./PN
