BACOLOD City – Three motorcycle-riding men shot a vendor around 2 p.m. on Tuesday in Sitio Magtanday, Barangay Camindangan, Sipalay City.
Warnel De la Cruz Catacata, 48, a resident of Barangay Caningay, Candoni town sustained a gunshot wound on his Adam’s apple that exited to his neck. He died on the spot, disclosed Chief Inspector Romeo Vargas.
Investigation said the victim just finished collecting his merchandise and loaded it to his multi-cab vehicle when a woman, identified as Josephine Mansalon, asked him if she could hitch a ride to which the victim agreed.
Catacata told her to sit beside him in the front seat but the woman declined, claiming she will hold a bundle of tobacco leaves.
While traversing the hilly portion in Sitio Magtanday, three unidentified suspects on a motorcycle overtook the victim’s vehicle. Catacata was shot using a .45-caliber pistol.
The woman was able to jump out of the vehicle after the incident.
Vargas said the suspects planned a robbery, adding that the cash amount carried by the victim amounted to P19,649.
Vergas added that they will further investigate the incident to determine the motive of the killing./PN
