ILOILO City – A construction worker suspected of stealing a motorcycle here has been arrested.

But 28-year-old Jeland Tiberio of Barangay San Isidro, Jaro district put up a fight before surrendering to the police on Friday night in Barangay Infante, Molo district.

According to Police Inspector Rio Maymay, Molo police chief, Tiberio was suspected to have stolen the tricycle of his neighbor, Michelle Cariño on Sept. 14.

On Friday afternoon, the anti-carnapping team of the Iloilo City Police Office spotted the tricycle’s side car in Barangay Infante.

The police later learned that Tiberio sold the side car for P600.

Tiberio himself was in the area. When he spotted Police Officer 3 Ryan Salay and Police Office 1 Arnie Leomidario, and members of the anti-carnapping team, he tried to leave aboard a motorcycle. But the policemen were quicker and cordoned the area. He had no way out.

The suspect pulled out a .38 revolver but the cops disarmed him.

“He admitted he stole the tricycle,” said Maymay. “He said he needed money for his family.”

The suspect was detained at the Molo police station lockup cell.

Aside from robbery, Tiberio will also be charged with illegal possession of firearm./PN
