ILOILO City – A motorcycle driver was killed and his back rider was injured in a collision with a wing van at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Circumferential 1 (C1) Road in Barangay Sooc, Arevalo district, marking the third recorded accident at the site and the first to result in a fatality.
The accident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. yesterday, February 19.
Police Executive Master Sergeant Dennis Yee of the Iloilo City Police Office’s (ICPO) Traffic Enforcement Unit, said the motorcycle driven by alias “Lino” was traveling from Sunset Boulevard in Mandurriao district towards Oton, Iloilo when it collided with the rear section of a wing van, driven by alias “Jonic”, crossing C1 Road towards Arevalo district.
The motorcyclist was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Hi back rider, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained minor injuries.
Investigation revealed that the motorcycle riders had been drinking prior to the incident, as the back rider admitted they had consumed alcohol with fellow waiters after work.
The ICPO said this was the third accident recorded at the aforementioned intersection./PN
