GRADUATING setter Ma. Arielle Estrañero hopes to just move on to the next chapter of her volleyball career as the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons fizzles out in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball Final Four race.
The Bacolod City native Estrañero admitted she was hurt not to be able to help the Lady Maroons reach the next round of competition despite their promising pre-season campaigns.
“I can cry, I can like feel bad but then at the end of the day I still have to move on with my life and think about what’s next for me in my volleyball career,” Estrañero said.
“As a senior and graduating student in the UAAP, I can’t say I’m disappointed. Of course there is frustration. You feel a little bad cause you want to reach at least the Final Four pero hindi nangyari,” she added.
Estrañero also said that despite them not reaching the semifinals for three straight years, she said she still like the efforts shown by her teammates all season long and believes the future is bright for the team.
“About the overall season, I still commend my teammates and our coaches for working hard everyday in training,” she said. “Everyone maintained a positive attitude going into the next games.”
Now that her five-year UAAP volleyball career boils down to one final match against the Adamson University Lady Falcons today, Estrañero hopes to end her career with a win.
“It’s still the same mindset, train hard, train even harder so that at least on our last game we could finish our season with a win,” Estrañero said.

Fast rising Filipino boxers Jade Bornea (13-0-0 win-loss-draw ring record) and Mike Plania (19-1-0) will be showcased on April 30, 2019 at the Robinsons Place in General Santos City.
Bornea will be testing the mettle of Cebuano Salatiel Amit while fellow Sanman Promotions boxer Plania will fight Vicente Casido as the both aim for bigger bouts within the year.
“I am undefeated and intends to keep my record that way to pave way for bigger fights. The big break is there waiting for me. I am taking Amit seriously. Filipino opponents are proven dangerous,” Bornea said.
“My ranking is always at stake in every fight. I have to protect it. I am not taking any opponent lightly. This is a game where you beat them or get beaten. I am ready to add another win to my resume,” Plania uttered.
According to Sanman head Jim Claude Manangquil, while it is a big effort for him to provide constant fights for his boxers, he does not get tired in molding a future Filipino world champion.
“We are in this business for that. We do our best to bring our prospects to world title matches,” Manangquil said./PN
