MANILA – The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has approved the upcoming bubble tournaments of Philippine Superliga and (PSL) and Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) in Subic, Zambales.

Games and Amusements Board (GAB) chairman Abraham “Baham” Mitra on Monday confirmed the approval for resumption of the two non-professional sports leagues amid coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

“We thank the IATF for allowing the resumption of non-professional sports competitions in areas under MGCQ (modified general community quarantine),” said Mitra.

PSL is scheduled to hold its Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup tournament from Feb. 26 to 28 at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority.

Eight teams will participate in the said event. Among the squads were:  Abanse Negrense 1 of Alexa Polidario and Erjane Magdato; Abanse Negrense 2 of Jennifer Cosas and Gelimae Villanueva; and F2 Logistics Cargo Movers of Negrenses Jennymar Senares and Kyla Gallego.

Ilonggas Dhannyleine Demontano and Jackielyn Estoquia will banner the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors 1, while Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors 2 will have Shiela Pineda and Jonah Sabete.

The Kennedy Solar Energy-PetroGazz squad of Ariane Alarcon and Christina Canares, United Auctioneers of Ella Viray and Theresa Ramas, and Toby’s Sports of Jonah San Pedro and Javen Sabas will compete in the tournament.

The eight squads will play in a single round robin classification phase within their groups. The teams will then play in the knockout crossover quarterfinals on Saturday with the winners advancing to the Sunday semifinals. The championship game is also on the same day.

Meanwhile, MPBL is set to resume with its stalled Lakan Cup in a bubble tournament starting March 5 in Subic.

The league was already in a do-or-die game of division finals involving North Division’s San Juan Knights-Go for Gold and Makati Super Crunch, and South Division’s Davao Occidental Tigers-Cocolife and Basilan Steel-Jumbo Plastic when it was halted./PN
