MANILA – Two judges from the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court (RTC) delayed their actions on the motions filed by Sen. Leila de Lima who faces two more drug charges filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Amelia Fabros-Corpuz of Branch 205 decided to delay the hearing to give the state prosecutor (DOJ) 10 days to answer the motion to quash de Lima filed.
The hearing for a similar motion de Lima filed for another drug-related case in Branch 206 of Judge Patria Manalastas-de Leon was also set for March 3 on the request of the state prosecutor.
Friday last week, the DOJ filed before the Muntinlupa City RTC three separate cases against de Lima and others in relation to the alleged proliferation of illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.
On Thursday, Judge Juanita Guerrero of Branch 204 released an arrest warrant against de Lima, her driver Ronnie Dayan and former Bureau of Corrections (Bucor) officer-in-charge Rafael Ragos.
De Lima was detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center on Friday afternoon while Dayan was temporarily jailed at the Muntinlupa City police headquarters.
The respondents were charged with violation of Section 5 (sale and trading of illegal drugs) in relation to Section 26 (b) and Section 28 (criminal liability of government officials and employees) under Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act./PN
