BACOLOD City — A member of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Murcia has been linked to illegal gambling, said Senior Insp. Norberto Barneso, municipal police chief.

Barneso said they have received information saying this SB member is operating and financing a jai-alai operation in the municipality.

The Murcia police chief did not identify the SB member.

A report on BomboRadyo.com, however, identified the town councilor as Ruel Villarosa.

A resident of Brgy. Zone 2 Poblacion, Murcia, confirmed that Villarosa was operating and financing a jai-alai operation in the town, said the report.

According to the report, the resident, who was not identified, told Bombo Radyo that Villarosa has been known in Murcia as an illegal gambling operator and financier even before he ran for SB member.

Many bet collectors, locally known as koridor, in all 23 barangays in the town were working for him, the report said, quoting its source.

The source also said that, aside from operating jai-alai, from which only a few benefitted, Villarosa had done nothing else for the residents of Murcia.

Barneso said the SB member cannot be arrested without solid evidence.

Panay News was still finding means to contact Villarosa for comment as of press time./PN
