Murder of NegOcc capitol consultant now a ‘cold case?’

BY DOMINIQUE GABRIEL G. BAÑAGA

BACOLOD City – Two years after the murder of Negros Occidental provincial government consultant Mariano Antonio “Marton” Cui, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is still facing a blank wall.

Atty. Renoir Baldovino, officer-in-charge of the NBI’s field office in Bacolod City, said yesterday morning that the courts in the cities of San Carlos and Bacolod have not granted their petition for a cyber warrant.

Baldovino said the granting of such could have allowed them to get new leads on the case.

The local NBI chief refused to divulge any other information about the case, although from what they have already gathered, Cui’s murder was “well-planned and well-funded.”

Baldovino also said there were a series of calls with the participants at a time when they were still planning, and the cyber warrant could have allowed them to open a gadget which would have been examined by technical experts in Manila.

Earlier, the provincial government raised the reward money for the arrest of the Cui’s killers to P2 million.

In a notice issued by the provincial government, any information that would lead to the capture of person, or individuals, behind Cui’s death may be relayed to the NBI-Bacolod field office.

The reward money was increased more than a year after Lacson announced the reward of P1.5 million to any person who can give vital information on the killers./PN
