JAMAL Musiala converted his second goal in the Euro 2024 as Germany prevailed over Hungary, 2-0, on Wednesday night (Thursday in the Philippines) at the Stuttgart Arena in Stuttgart, Germany.
The 21-year-old forward, who is making his Euro debut, opened the scoring for the home team as he connected past the Hungarian defender in the 22nd minute.
Team captain Ä°lkay GĂźndoÄan then doubled the advantage for Germany in the second half to score a follow-up to their dominant 5-1 victory against Scotland over the weekend.
âHe did brilliant in both games,â Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann, referring to Musiala. âNot only the two goals, I think every situation or offensive proposition is pretty tough for the opponent to defend.
Germany are currently ahead in Group A with six points after winning their first two games, while Hungary remained in fourth place without a point after two group matches.
Switzerland, on the other hand, moved up to second place in the group with four points after their 1-1 draw with Scotland, which secured their first point of the Euro 2024 with the deadlock.
Scott McTominay drew first blood for Scotland with his 13th-minute conversion, but Switzerland responded with a goal from Xherdan Shaqiri 13 minutes later for the 1-1 count.
Meanwhile, Klaus Gjasula made up for an early miscue with a game-tying goal in injury time as Albania pulled off a 2-2 draw against Croatia at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.
Gjasula committed a costly own-goal violation in his first minutes on the pitch to give their opponent a 2-1 edge following an exchange of goals by Albania’s Qazim Laki and Croatia’s Andrej Kramaric.
Albania and Croatia are currently in third and fourth spots in Group B with one point apiece after dropping their respective opening day assignments against defending champions Italy and Spain, respectively./PN
