AFTER some uncertainty with our rating, and a long struggle with scheduling, we finally got a playdate for Ikapito nga Adlaw – a film by Peter Solis Nery.
Thursday, Dec. 8 it is, and we will premiere at the FDCP Cinematheque Iloilo in the B & C building on Solis Street (across BPI and Landbank, and on the side of EastWest Bank on Iznart and Solis Streets).
There will be two premiere screenings on the same day: the first will be at 3:30 p.m., when we front act the restored classic Virgin People by Celso Ad Castillo; and the second at 5:30 p.m., when we double with Karnal by Marilou Diaz-Abaya, another restored classic. As can be expected, these programs are limited strictly “for mature viewers only.”
We celebrate the venue choice of FDCP Cinematheque Iloilo for our film’s premiere because it also underlines the fact that our film, an official selection in the films in competition category of the ongoing 4th Cinekasimanwa: The Western Visayas Film Festival, is pretty much different from the other shorts in competition which you will get a chance to see next week at the SM Cinemas.
So yes, we are the only competing shorts in the film grants category to be shown at the Cinematheque Iloilo. And if the reason is not yet very obvious at this time, even with the reputations of our accompanying films Virgin People and Karnal, then I will say it again more explicitly: Ikapito nga Adlaw is a game changer. It is a film so daring and bold that it will definitely change the face of Ilonggo films after Thursday, Dec. 8.
When other competitor filmmakers, each with their own entries, in the fourth edition of the Cinekasimanwa Film Festival campaign and declare that Ikapito nga Adlaw is a “must see film,” something must definitely be brewing. And when bloggers review it as a movie that “goes where most Ilonggo filmmakers dare not go,” it makes you think what it is that makes Ikapito nga Adlaw so bold and daring.
Well, the wait is over. You will finally get a chance to see what the fuzz is about on Thursday, Dec. 8.
Both our 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. premieres have an admission price of P100. The cast and crew will be present, and filmmaker Peter Solis Nery’s costume promises to be something “to die for.”
Some local dignitaries and celebrities will join us in our Oscar moments; and although we have also invited Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, let’s just see if they make it here.
Seating is limited at the FDCP Cinematheque Iloilo. To be sure you get a seat reservation (only 75 are available, minus ten or twelve for the cast and crew in premiere attire), text or call 09150937100.
See you at the movies!/PN
