k’s morning program of Antique’s provincial government revealed some minor yet embarrassing failing in the provision of mattresses for the delegations.

Overheard on a radio program was Gov. Rhodora Cadiao telling employees to do their committee duties well so as to achieve a friendly accommodation of the various regional delegations and guests.

She also hinted on a committee failure to have bedding supplies delivered on time, lead to embarrassing consequences for Antique officials, and critics had a grand time harping on the issue.

Take the case of the Davao contingent that was one of the early arrivals. Because they arrived at the Julian F. Pacificador National High School in the dead of the night, they had to ask for cardboards from residents to serve as their temporary mats over concrete floors inside the classrooms.

On the whole, however, Antique’s Department of Education (DepEd) and provincial officials have been doing well in welcoming and seeing to the comfort and safety of the delegations in their different billeting areas. Provisions of water, power and sanitation were quickly made.

Just this April 21, several ambulances, emergency medical vehicles, responders and fire protection vehicles and support crew were blessed and deployed to their respective assignments, including those from neighboring provinces that volunteered their assets.

If the fire, health and risk reduction teams could provide safety, the regional Philippine National Police provided additional 900 personnel while the Philippine Army based in San Remigio town are also in close coordination to provide the public protection and security.

Friendliness and hospitality is the order of the week for Antiqueños, and the governor had seen to the provision of local rice produce to extend to guests / delegations, about 300 sacks of Seven Tonner rice, known for its softness and palatability. Bigger contingents may have 20 and smaller delegations some 15, according to officials.

The San Jose police has devised a traffic plan to ensure undisturbed activity flow during the six-day Palaro, and the Antique Police Provincial Office said has enough personnel to implement a security plan with the assistance of the Philippine Army.

President Rodrigo Duterte heads the long line of VIPs, sports celebrities and other popular personalities who are expected to arrive for the occasion./PN
