Myla Pablo shines; Angels sweeps Power Chargers in PVL

MANILA – Petro Gazz Angels continued their surge in the 2024-25 PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference after a 28-26, 29-27, 25-18 sweep over Akari Power Chargers on Thursday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Myla Pablo delivered a vintage performance with 15 points, on 13 attacks, one block, and a service ace, to be named Player of the Game as the Angels improved to a 3-1 win-loss slate.

“Our coaches told us to keep smiling on the court, even if we’re trailing by a wide margin,” the former National University Lady Bulldogs star said in a post-game interview.

“I’m really grateful for the trust that the coaches and my teammates have given me. It means a lot,” she added. “But this victory wasn’t just about my performance. It was a collective effort. Everyone contributed, and that teamwork made all the difference.”

Brooke van Sickle led the Angels’ offense with 19 points to go with 13 excellent digs and five receptions, while Ilongga Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Mary Remy Palma chipped in with seven points each.

Ivy Lacsina led Akari with a game-high 21 points, Grethcel Soltones added 11 points, while Negrense Christine Joy Soyud and Mereophe Sharma chipped in with 10 and five points, respectively, as they dropped to a 2-3 mark.

Meanwhile, Farm Fresh Foxies overcame a gritty stand by sister team ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles for a 26-24, 13-25, 25-21, 25-19 victory. Both teams now have a 2-2 win-loss slate.

Trisha Tubu spearheaded the offense with 28 points, with 27 coming from attacks, while Alyssa Bertolano posted a triple-double of 12 points, 12 excellent digs, and 12 excellent receptions for the Foxies.

Nag-work ‘yung teamwork namin,” Tubu said in a post-game interview. “May konting lapses (kami nung second set), pero mabuti at naibalik namin ‘yung laro (in third and fourth sets).”

Thea Gagate led the way with 16 points, while Chinnie Arroyo and Jovelyn Gonzaga contributed 10 points each, for the Thunderbelles, which saw their two-game winning run snapped./PN
