Nagoya dominates Toyama in Japan

MANILA – Bobby Ray Parks Jr. and Nagoya Diamond Dolphins continued their roll in the 2021-2022 Japan B.League after a 101-75 beating of Dwight Ramos and Toyama Grouses on Sunday at the Dolphins Arena.

Parks had a solid contribution with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists as the Diamond Dolphins notched its fifth straight victory for a 15-6 win-loss slate.

Coty Clarke led Nagoya with 19 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Taito Nakahigashi got 18 points, while Scott Eatherton added double-double 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Holding to a 46-39 advantage at the half, the Diamond Dolphins started strong in the third period with 15-3 scoring blast capped by free throws by Parks and a Nakahigashi three-pointer.

Nagoya continued its rampage in the fourth quarter. It matched Toyama basket per basket before the former widened the lead further to reach its largest at 29 points.

The Diamond Dolphins completed a four-game series sweep against the Grouses – a 94-68 domination on Oct. 16, a 99-74 rout on Oct. 17 and a 90-85 escape on Saturday.

Ramos, a Gilas Pilipinas member before deciding to go to Japan, struggled on offense. He was held to two points with four assists as the Grouses dropped to 7-14 win-loss slate.

Joshua Smith top-scored for Toyama with 19 points to go with eight rebounds. Brice Johnson got 14 points, while Julian Mavunga and Toshiki Kamisawa had 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Parks and the Diamond Dolphins will host Kyoto on Dec. 25 and 26 while Ramos and the Grouses will play host to Gunma on the same Christmas weekend.

Meanwhile, Ilonggo Kiefer Ravena’s 22 point effort was not enough as the Shiga Lakestars (7-14) suffered a 98-85 defeat at the hands of Yokohama Dragonflies (13-8)./PN
