THE main arrival curbside of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s (NAIA) Terminal 1 is now open to all private vehicles and not just very important persons (VIPs), the airport operator said Friday, January 10.
The New NAIA Infra Corporation said the 14 designated loading bays in the main curbside — A1 to A14 — will now be open for private vehicles to pick up passengers.
Terminal transfer shuttle bus services will also have stops just beyond Bay A14, the NNIC said.
This means passengers no longer need to go to the ground floor passenger arrival extension area to meet their rides, and can now wait comfortably without carrying their luggage far.
NNIC said the outer curbside — B1 to B6 — is now an additional pickup area. It will have a meet and greet area, which will open on January 12. It will also have Grab ride-hailing booths where passengers can quickly and easily get a ride home.
The ground floor arrival extension area, meanwhile, will now be allotted for rent-a-car services, coupon taxis, and yellow metered taxis.
“By introducing a redesigned curbside system, we are making it easier for passengers and their loved ones to connect while addressing longstanding traffic issues at Terminal 1,” said NNIC president Ramon Ang.
NNIC, a San Miguel-led consortium, took over NAIA operations in September. Since then, it has raised parking fees to ‘prioritize’ passengers and partnered with Meralco to boost the power supply in the airport.
San Miguel is also using a portion of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation’s (PAGCOR) Nayong Pilipino property for infrastructure to complement airport operations. (ABS-CBN News)
