‘Nakakadiri na mag-online’: Why Teddy Corpuz is growing tired of social media

TEDDY Corpuz, the “It’s Showtime” host who is also the frontman of rock band Rocksteddy, is starting to believe that maintaining a social media presence is not worth the hassle.

In a Twitter post this past week, he wrote that the overwhelming pressure from social media has reached “toxic” levels, to the point where many online are forced to “fake” their realities.

He pointed towards those who feel obligated to post “feed-goal worthy” Instagram photos, complete with attractive filters and an intellectual quote “na wala naman kinalaman doon sa pic mo.”

He continued this gloomy view by saying: “Alam naman natin lahat na most of the time boring naman talaga at napaka-mundane nang buhay mo.”

Hindi naman natin pinopost ‘yung mga . . . depressed [moments], weaknesses and anxieties natin. Kasi nga everything in our feed kailangan maganda, masaya and feed-goal worthy.”

The musician then added: “Kaya todo post ka nang umaatikabo mong vlog to show kung gaano kasarap at kasaya ang pekeng buhay na pinapakita at ipinaiinggit mo sa mga followers mo who wanted to be just like you.”

“Na parang gusto mo munang mag-break sa social media.”

It remains unclear what prompted his post, but he did advise those who agreed with him to “turn to God” whenever they feel discouraged by social media.

Siya na lang ‘yung security and identity ko, na mahal niya ako no matter how ordinary or unworthy I am.” (ABS-CBN News)
