MANILA — Lies. So said Sen. Nancy Binay about the latest allegation against her father, Vice President Jejomar Binay Sr.

Former Makati City vice mayor Ernesto Mercado, during the Senate investigation on the controversial Makati car park building yesterday, claimed that the then Makati mayor received 13-percent kickbacks from every infrastructure project in the city.

Hindi ko alam kung bakit paulit-ulit niyang sinisiraan ang aming pamilya,” Senator Binay yesterday said.

She said she would not encourage her father to attend the next Senate probe on Sept. 25.

Believing that it is not the proper forum where the vice president can defend himself, Senator Binay described the Senate investigation as a “teleserye.”

According to Mercado, he would personally bring the kickbacks to Vice President Binay and his son, incumbent Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr.

Senator Binay clarified that her family has not received a single centavo delivered by the former Makati vice mayor.

She said the first time she received something from Mercado was during her wedding day: a gift as her godfather.

Kutsara,” Senator Binay said of the gift.

She vowed to remain focused on her job and responsibilities as senator amid the controversies.

Ipagdadasal ko na lang siya na ma-enlighten siya at magsasabi ng totoo. Parang sinasapi-an na kasi,” she said./PN
