MANILA — Sen. Nancy Binay yesterday reacted to Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV’s claim that the controversial P2.2-billion Makati City Hall Building 2 was not a world-class building.
She maintained that the building, whose construction started when her father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, was still Makati mayor, is world-class.
“Being maganda is subjective,” Binay told select reporters. “Pumunta sila para hindi tingnan kung world-class kundi para pintasan ang building.”
Senators Trillanes and Aquilino Pimentel III conducted an ocular inspection of the building yesterday morning.
“That’s their opinion. Parang beauty din ’yan, it’s in the eye of the beholder. Siguro ganun din pagdating sa building,” she said.
“Para sa kanila hindi ganun kagandahan, pero syempre sa amin maganda lalo na kung nakapag-ikot ka sa buong Pilipinas,” said Binay. “I don’t think makakakita ka ng local government unit building na ganun ka ganda.”
She said she was not surprised by Trillanes’ remarks.
According to Trillanes, “ayon sa resource persons natin, wala silang nakitang extraordinary, meaning, standard lang o average lang ’yung materyales na ginamit at mga finishing na ginawa.”
He said they will also conduct ocular inspections of the Makati Science High School and the Ospital ng Makati.
For his part, Cong. Toby Tiangco, secretary-general of the United Nationalist Alliance, said Trillanes’ statement was an “unsubstantiated pronouncement.”
He did not expect that Trillanes was an “interior decorator,” said Tiangco.
“What the inspection proved was that Senator Trillanes has a misjudging eye for the quality of the materials used in the building’s construction,” said the congressman from Navotas./PN
