SAN JOSE, Antique – A 90-year-old resident of Barangay Idio, Sebaste, Antique received on June 1 his first dose of the vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Lorenzo Desales is the second oldest person in Antique to receive the vaccine; the first was a 92-year-old from this capital town.
“He said he wanted to live longer and protect his family, that was why he wanted to have protection from the disease,” said Idio punong barangay Pamela Socorro Azucena.
Desales remained strong and had not experienced any side effects like fever, Azucena added.
So far, 324 of her residents composed of health workers, senior citizens, and those with comorbidity had been vaccinated with first and second doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
The oldest to get vaccinated in the province was inoculated on April 20 here.
“He availed himself of the Sinovac vaccine and so far there were no side effects reported,” said Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) information officer Irene Dulduco.
IPHO data showed that since April,4,667 senior citizens have availed themselves of vaccines from out of the 46,000 eligible elderly. (Annabel Consuelo Petinglay, PNA/PN)
