ILOILO – The police officer caught in an illegal cock derby in Barangay Torocadan, San Joaquin town faces administrative charges at the National Police Commission (Napolcom).
The charges against Police Staff Sergeant Jose Digcabo-on – assigned in the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (RPHAU) – will include neglect of duty and grave misconduct, according to Atty. Joseph Celis, Napolcom region 6 director.
This was the second time for Digcabo-on to be charged administratively for illegal cockfighting, Celis added.
He reminded policemen to avoid cockfighting and other illegal activities “that would tarnish the name of the PNP (Philippine National Police).”
A criminal case for violation of Presidential Decree 449 (Cockfighting Law of 1974) was filed against Digcabo-on before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office on April 5.
However, he was released from the custodial facility of the San Joaquin police station after posting bail.
Digcabo-on was suspended from Jan. 1 to 31 this year for illegal cockfighting at Jaro Coliseum.
He was suspended again in March after he was caught transporting alcoholic drinks last year.
As this was being written, Digcabo-on was back on duty at the RPHAU.
On other hand, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office is now intensifying its operation against cockfighting especially in remote barangays. It has tapped barangay officials to help monitor illegal activities./PN
