MANILA – Suspected pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles claimed that she gave money for the senatorial campaign of Franklin Drilon during the 2010 elections.

The Ilonggo senator received P5 million in campaign contributions from her, Napoles said in an interview aired over state television PTV4 on Monday.

Napoles was accused of funneling lawmakers’ Priority Development Assistance Funds, also known as pork barrel, to bogus nongovernment organizations.

The businesswoman is currently detained at a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility for plunder charges.

Kilala niya po ako,” Napoles said of Drilon. “At sa katunayan nagbigay po ako [ng] donation noong eleksyon, noong tumakbo po siya noong 2010 elections, P5 million po.”

“We deny having received any campaign contribution from Napoles,” Drilon said in a statement.

“We have submitted our Statements of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE), which are open for public scrutiny,” he said. “We will not further comment on such obviously fake news intended to harass the opposition.”

Sought for comment, Malacañang said Napoles’ disclosure on Drilon warrants an investigation.

“Leave it to (the Department of Justice), but there should be an investigation,” Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said.

“Let the process of accountability begin,” he added./PN
