MANILA – The Philippine National Games was rescheduled from December this year to April next year, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) announced.
Moving the annual sporting event to April 15 to 21 will help ensure Cebu hosts it properly, PSC chairman William Ramirez said in a statement.
“We are tentatively scheduling it on April 15 to 21, 2018. It will still be held in Cebu,” Ramirez said. “The moving of the event was permitted to make the necessary administration to ensure an efficiently run [National Games].”
Another reason for the postponement was the unavailability of some athletes due to collegiate tournaments and other sporting events scheduled for December, said the PSC.
The National Games was being held as a means to identify the possible composition of national pool athletes who will compete in international tournaments, including Southeast Asian Games, Asian Games and Olympics.
It features 21 events: arnis, archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, chess, cycling, dancesport, gymnastics, judo, karatedo;
Rugby football, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, lawn tennis, triathlon, volleyball and weightlifting./PN
