THE national government’s subsidies for government-owned and -controlled corporations (GOCCs) amounted to P137.1 billion in the first nine months of the year.
Data from the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) showed that the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) was the biggest recipient of budgetary support amounting to P50.6 billion.
The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) received P31.8 billion, second on the list.
The National Housing Authority (NHA) came in third with subsidies amounting to P16.6 billion.
Other top recipient GOCCs include the National Food Authority (NFA) – P6 billion, Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation – P5 billion, Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) – P4.6 billion, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (P3.1 billion), and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (P2.9 billion).
For September alone, subsidies to GOCCS, slightly went down to P21.2 billion from last year’s P23.6 billion.
It was, however, higher than the P18.9 billion in August this year.
The NHA received the biggest subsidy amounting to P11.1 billion from September subsidies.
Other top recipients include the NIA (P2.9 billion), PCIC (P2.7 billion), National Electrification Administration (P1.3 billion), and NFA (P1.0 billion). (PNA)/PN
