ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) awarded four policewomen for their “service and exemplary performance” during the kick-off ceremony of the 2021 National Women’s Month celebration on Monday, March 1.
Police Major Liza Nofuente, chief of the Women’s and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), was cited for her “dedicated service beyond the call of duty.”
She facilitated numerous livelihood programs such as the “Babaye Bangon” at the height of the coronavirus pandemic last year.
“Babaye Bangon” helped especially the women victims of violence.
On the other hand, Police Senior Master Sergeant Rosario Olaveja, WCPD chief of the Roxas City police station, was hailed for initiating a partnership with the Roxas City government for the “Puloy-an sang Pagpalangga” – a crisis center that has so far served 242 victims of violence against women and children (VAWC).
She also organized VAWC desk officers in 47 barangays of Roxas City and successfully filed 62 cases of violation of women’s and children’s rights in court.
The two other awardees were Police Staff Sergeant Angelie Orfelia, member of the Tobias Fornier police station in Antique, and Police Staff Sergeant Emely Roldan, member of the Malay municipal police station in Aklan.
Orfelia helped rescue a capsized motorized banca and saved four individuals on May 16, 2020.
Roldan filed 41 cases for violation of women’s and children’s rights in court – six of which were already resolved by the courts, resulting to convictions.
“We honor our deserving policewomen for their work and hardships,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson.
