MANILA – Richdile John Nava and Jenre Angelo Fabay – both native of Guimaras – were hailed as champions in the recently held online chess tournament spearheaded by Guimaras’ Players’ Center Sports Academy (GPCSA).
The 16-year-old Nava took home the 18-and-under category championship after thrashing San Lorenzo’s Kimberly Colaste and Rio Galfo, who settled for second and third spots, respectively.
The 12-year-old Fabay, on the other hand, clinched the trophy in the 12-and-under category with Edian Martires and Arean Rose Seravanes finishing second and third.
“We were amazed by the turnout of the tournament. We promise that we will continue to organize online chess tournaments to identify potential chess players in Guimaras,” said Dr. Richard Gabayoyo, GPCSA founder and West Visayas State University Sports director.
GPCSA’s first-ever online chess competition was joined by 30 chess players.
It was sponsored by Justino Maglipong and Sheila Sinoy-Ferrer./PN
