NBI: Leaking of private convos prohibited under cybercrime law

MANILA – Leaking screenshots of private conversations on social media is prohibited under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said.

According to NBI chief Jaime Santiago, individuals whose private conversations are spread online may lodge cybercrime complaints with the authorities.

Santiago said this is covered by the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which provides that complaints may be lodged before the NBI Cybercrime Division or the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group.

Recently, the alleged private conversations between ABS-CBN love team Anthony Jennings and Maris Racal were leaked online by the former’s ex-girlfriend Jamela Villanueva.

The leakage of screenshots led to Jennings and Racal being ridiculed by the netizens online./PN
