MANILA – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has recommended the filing of criminal complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio in connection with her threats directed at President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and others in the event of her death.

The recommendation has been forwarded to the Department of Justice (DOJ), according to NBI director Jaime Santiago.

“Ang magtitimbang-timbang ng aming mga ebidensya ay ang DOJ, whether they will conduct a preliminary investigation on the matter,” Santiago said in an interview with DZBB AM Radio on Wednesday.

During an online press briefing in 2024, Duterte-Carpio stated that she had instructed someone to eliminate Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta, and Speaker Martin Romualdez should an alleged conspiracy against her come to fruition.

“Huwag kang mag-alala sa security ko kasi may kinausap na ako na tao. Sinabi ko sa kanya, ‘pag pinatay ako, patayin mo si BBM, si Liza Araneta, at si Martin Romualdez,” Duterte-Carpio said then.

“Nagbilin na ako, Ma’am. ‘Pag namatay ako, huwag ka tumigil hanggang hindi mo mapapatay sila. And then he said ‘yes’,” the Vice President added.

Subsequently, Duterte-Carpio clarified that her remarks regarding “assassination” were “maliciously taken out of logical context,” asserting that she was merely emphasizing the purported threat to her safety.

The Vice President did not attend the NBI proceedings but instead submitted a letter refuting the allegations made against her./PN
