MANILA – University of Perpetual Help Altas rode on the career game of Kim Aurin to score a come-from-behind 85-83 win over College of St. Benilde Blazers in NCAA Season 95 men’s basketball at the San Juan Arena.
Aurin posted a career-best 29 points to go along with 10 rebounds as Jielo Razon and Tonton Peralta chipped in 15 and 11 markers, respectively.
The Altas rose to a 4-10 win-loss slate.
Down by as much as 15 points in the opening half, Aurin singlehandedly carved the Altas out from the slump by spearheading a 17-1 scoring run to take a 62-60 advantage heading into the fourth.
The Altas broke away from a 66-all deadlock with five straight points from Ilonggo Edgar Charcos followed by baskets from Peralta and Benedict Adamos to establish an 82-71 lead.
The Blazers, however, did not easily give up. It went on a furious run in the final two minutes to come to as close as 83-85 and even had a chance to win. But Prince Carlos muffed his three-point attempt.
Carlo Young tallied 20 points, including five three-point conversions, and Carlos and Justin Gutang added 13 markers apiece as the Blazers skidded to its sixth straight loss for a 6-8 card.
In other results, Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights and San Sebastian College Stags gave life to their Final Four campaigns with separate wins over Arellano University Chiefs (97-84) and Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers (62-59), respectively./PN
