NCAA basketball: Bolick powers San Beda past EAC, 76-57

MANILA – Robert Bolick waxed hot in the third period as San Beda University Red Lions cruised to a 76-57 victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball at the San Juan Arena.

Clinging to a slim 38-36 lead at the half on Thursday night, Bolick ignited the Red Lions’ strong third quarter showing with 12 points for a 59-45 advantage. This later went up to as high as 19 points in the fourth.

Bolick led the way with 20 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Javee Mocon chipped in 11 points, seven rebounds, and two assists for the defending champion Red Lions (12-1).

Aside from tallying its sixth straight victory, it was also the Red Lions’ 20th consecutive victory over the Generals since the latter participated in the oldest collegiate league in the country in 2009.

“Natiyempuhan lang siguro na nananalo kami sa EAC. They are really improving right now,” said Red Lions head coach Boyet Fernandez. “Credit to the players because we stepped up our defense in the second half.”

Hamadou Laminou finished with double-double 15 points and 10 rebounds while JP Maguliano added 12 markers and nine boards for the Generals.

The Generals dropped to a 2-10 card.

Yesterday, Bong Quinto registered his third triple-double performance of the season as Letran Knights drubbed Mapua Cardinals, 84-69, to cling to solo third place.

The 23-year-old Quinto checked in with 11 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists for Knights. Ilonggo JP Calvo, meanwhile, exploded with a career-high 26 points on an efficient nine-of-13 shooting clip.

College of St. Benilde kept breathing down Letran’s neck at No. 4 after it smashed Arellano University, 89-73. Justin Gutang top-scored with 23 points for Blazers./PN
